Bremen, August 27, 2009 - The founders and shareholders of the OHB Group, Christa and Prof. Manfred Fuchs have today been named Honorary Senators and Patrons of the University of Bremen. In a special ceremony held at Bremen City Hall, they were awarded this title in recognition of their particular contribution to science and the integration of the university within society in the state and the region.

Prof. Dr. Rolf Drechsler, deputy rector of the University of Bremen, praised the commitment of Prof. and Mrs. Fuchs to research and teaching at the university over so many years. In his speech, he said: "Prof. and Mrs. Fuchs have made crucial contributions to the University of Bremen's success, particularly in the area of space research. Numerous institutes continue to benefit from the support of and research partnerships with companies owned by the Fuchs family."

A prime example of this successful collaboration is the construction of the drop tower for research into gravity-free conditions. Prof. Dr. Hans Rath, head of the Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) and a friend of the family praised Christa and Manfred Fuchs, saying "The generous support in both material and non-material form with which you have provided the University of Bremen over 25 years is exemplary and a model for others to follow."

This marks the first time that the title of "Honorary Senator and Patron of the University of Bremen" has been awarded to a husband-and-wife team of entrepreneurs. Prior to this, it had always only been bestowed on individuals.
